Shipwrecks of the Roaring Forties Update 2019

Writer: CRAR+MCRAR+M

Alistair Paterson and colleagues from WA Museum, the Dutch Government, and Flinders University have just returned from the last field season of this project, this time to the Pelsaert group of Abrolhos Islands. Fieldwork included recording and assessing  sites related to the Zeewijk shipwreck of 1727. A drone and walking survey of all these islands has provided a comprehensive overview of the colonial guano mining and whaling industries in the islands. We are working on a book documenting the project; and also celebrating the WA Museum receiving Museums & Galleries National Awards - Museums Australia for research on this project.
